Big News, Big Investments

We did it! Florida UUs have worked tirelessly to bring us to this day. Yesterday, the Florida Supreme Court declared that Yes on 4, the abortion protection ballot measure, is officially on the November ballot!

While we celebrate our wins, our work is not over. Friend, in 30 days, Florida’s six-week abortion ban goes into effect. At the UU the Vote launch on March 14, Yes on 4 Interim Organizing Director Taylor Aguilera reminded us that the fight for abortion access in Florida is a critical fight for abortion access for thousands of people across the region.

Help us build power and win big.

That’s why we are staffing up, to deepen our work and support in congregations in Florida. Please welcome Rev. Kierstin Homblette Allen (she/her), who will be providing support to our UU the Vote Florida organizing. Kierstin is a daughter, a sister, a mother, and a friend. She holds a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary and is currently serving as the Program Director for Beloved Conversations, a program of the Fahs Collaborative at Meadville Lombard Theological School. Her ministry is centered on collective liberation and shifting systems and Unitarian Universalist communities into alignment with our most deeply held shared values. She lives in Orlando with her wife and two kids. Kierstin will coordinate and support UU congregations in Florida and deepen our partnerships with the Floridians Protecting Freedom coalition and other groups in the broader fight for reproductive justice.

Let’s deepen our work together.

The clock is ticking. Every day is an opportunity to grow our base of support. That means text banks, phonebanks, rallies, and door knocking. Help us meet the moment by galvanizing national support to pass Yes on 4 and win greater access to abortion for thousands of birthing people in the Southeast.

Please chip in what you can to grow our organizing effort.

Excited to join UU the Vote but need some support with your work? Confused about what electoral work is “allowed” for non-profits? Want help finding a local partner to work with? Join us at Getting Started with UU the Vote: Community Gathering on Thursday, April 18 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET as we talk through some of the first steps to making a plan.
